KIYOSHI AWAZU (1929 - ) [A NEW SPIRIT IN JAPAN.] 1976.
401/2x281/2 inches.
Condition A. Paper.
Awazu, who specialized in exhibition design, was also a professor, and was known around the world. In the 1970s he designed bright, colorful posters like this one. The advertisement is for a traditional Kyoto company that produced Kimonos and Obis, and the design is approached in a non-traditional manner using sophisticated Japanese symbolism. Using representations of clouds and the sea the design evokes nature. The small images arranged vertically on the right are inspired by "Hama Fuda," a form of Japanese playing cards that represent the four seasons. Tradition p. 36 no 9.
